 History of Cupco

Cupco is the Choctaw word for Hackberry

Cupco Church was started in 1896, finished in 1897. After completion a Presbyterian Church organized as soon as the building was finished.

Construction:

Carpenters: Tuck and Charley Holman
Volunteers: Willy King, Sam Henderson, Ed Wall, Lewis Karns, Joshua Potts

Church Officers:

Pastor:  Sam Bohanon
Deacons:  Billy Bolbert, Peter Hudson
Sponsors: Ellis Bohanon, Sophia King, Robert Bohanon

Due to low attendance, Cupco was temporarily closed as a church and used as a hay barn. In 1913, Cupco was reorganized as a Free Will Baptist Church.

Reorganizers:

Ministers: W.M. Sturgeon, John Farmer, Elzy Yadel
Deacon: W.m. Castle
Members: Andy Hamby, Sam Stafford
